Goonswarm and Allies Defeat Kenzoku

June 30th, 2009

Goonswarm defeats Kenny

After a long war that waged across Delve and Querious, goonswarm and Allies celebrate victory over Kenzoku.

I have a bunch of pics on another computer from some battles and such. I’ll try to get those uploaded. Cool stuff, my killboard has seen alot of action

Will be interesting to see what the future holds now that we have achieved peace

EVE Online

Fleet Warp

May 31st, 2009

Yesterday goonfleet and allies helped secure a tower in 0-N. Below is a picture of our fleet in warp which looks pretty cool I must say

warp

Later on that day I went and grabbed my Ares and brought that along to the gang. Sure, it does much less DPS than Taranis but due to the very nice Warp Scram / Warp Disrupter range bonus (20% with Interceptor IV), it can perform its role very effectively. It’s like a nice highly specialized ship. Got in on a few kill mails yesterday with light damage to my ship (bout 19% armor damage sustained). Was pretty exciting…

War at Querious

My corp/alliance rallied and we defended our space gloriously this weekend. My killboard saw a lot of nice action. Waiting on the new patch to install right now….

EVE Online

Crazy Conquest for Delve and Other wars

April 2nd, 2009

This article was a great read I’ve enjoyed. Guess this old news of course. It’s just funny how far people are willing to go to make their virtual dreams come true in EVE Online.

EVE Online

A Strange Night

August 13th, 2008

Last night played EVE Online for a bit. I log onto my character and go rat for a bit. Couldn’t really find any good spawns and only 1 other ratter in the system (my corpmate). The night is looking like it will be dead. Then our CEO makes a call-to-arms when Intel reports hostiles. I warp into system and by that time they already have them in Hull and they flee (guess no one had a scram, grrr).  The red jumps through the gate (in lowsec now) and we just like stare at each other. At the time, I’m in my ratter (t2 fitted myrm) so I don;t even think this ship can tank the hostile + gate guns. Especially with the drain my t2 hardeners have on my cap

So we don’t fire on each other due to gate guns. Anyway, the red backs up from the gate (pass the 150km range) and starts going at it with my corpmate. Btw, the red was flying a Hurricane. Anyway, my corpmate is taking fire from gate guns. During this time I’m in transit back to the gate in my Taranis (interceptor). The hostile warps away before I can get in range to tackle.

Now to think back on this I should have warped to my fleet member. But I didn’t. I was trying to warp to the hostile….

Man pvp is complex in EVE…. Oh well live and learn

Massively articles on EVE

July 20th, 2008

Massively has posted a few interesting posts concerning EVE lately:

Best MMOs on the Market

Exploration Tutorial

In particular I liked Tyranny of Skill Training which is something I can be sympathetic with. Nowdays I of course have long skill trains going (in a few days a 14 day skill will finish hehe) but starting out it was a real pain switching back and forth between all those short rank 1 skills (or early levels). Now, I find myself focusing on taking skills to Level V which is pretty coo. Noticed a lot of posters offered good advice

Massively wrote a very good article on the mining profession.

EVE Online

The Gate Camp

July 1st, 2008

Other day, I wrote this long rant about EVE. The very next day what do I do? I play EVE Online for bout 4-5 hours straight. Sigh, guess I can’t get away

I actually had fun though even though I didnt get one kill. Lately I joined a new Corp / alliance that operates in Providence. So I’ve been helping give Intel on pirates and secure the gates. I have come to find lowsec pvp to be a tricky thing. Lost my first Interceptor the other day to some gate guns. I saw a red and like a noob I tried to attack him and was instantly painted by the guns. So embarassing, I must’ve died in front of 20 blues

Well at least I got some of my fittings back

After that I joined a fleet and we camped the gates for a bit. No pirates tried to jump in on our watch.

Was a pleasant day I suppose. Made some ISK and actually helped guard the entrances into our space for a bit. Not too eventful; but not as bloody as I wanted

What I Don’t Like About EVE Online

June 28th, 2008

Figured I should make a list of things I do not like about the game. I do like it but I’m not sure how long I will stick with it. I will probably take a break after this month I suppose. Maybe revisit later. Might not. I’ve been trying to ignore what I hate about the game and just keep playing but my list of issues just keep piling up.

- Very money driven. Player Run Economy is something that is very untapped. I love that aspect about this title. Problem is the only way to come up with money is ‘mostly’ through PVE / Sandbox PVE. This is to be expected of course. Problem is- the combat in EVE Online gets dull fighting the PVE mobs. There is pirating and other indirect ways to accrue isk but there really isn’t a solid direct way to make ISK from PVP. At least none to my liking atm

- Time Based Training blows chunks. There is nothing the player can do to accelerate this process beyond purchasing Implants. Of course that costs even more ISK and TIME. Additionally, you can only train one skill at a time for the ENTIRE ACCOUNT. This is total crap. What about Alts? Sorry, you have to buy another account for each alt you want to train. Time Based Training has some potential to be pretty interesting but the way they applied it here, it feels very constrictive and removes the player’s control over their own avatar.

- Corp Taxes sucks. I left my last corp where we had a 15% corp tax and + 10 million a month charge per character. Yeah we had a POS. Still, it makes one feel like they no longer playing a game but rather grinding to satisfy their guild. This sucks for me. Killing the rats out in 0.0 was the only way to make decent ISK for myself. However, in order to get access to these rats you need to make deals with the local Alliance that holds that space. They of course basically access a tax on this resource. So weird, I always envisioned a similar system like this whereas Guilds can hold terriority and charge others taxes to adventure there. Not a bad system in theory. But here it kinda sucks because when you pvp its really ‘negative pvp’. The funny part was that I quit that Corp for one that had a lower corp tax. My new one raised their corp tax to 15% a few days right after I joined. Suckage. This sucks I hate being forced into these player run politics etc just to have access to the endgame.

- Negative PVP. I really love the death penalties on one hand. It makes one feel fear when they fly through dangerous areas. But what sucks is for most players, PVP is never positive but negative. You lose a ship + Implants you have on your avatar. What sucks is Implants are not cheap. We’re talking around 50+mil. Sure you can buy Jump Clones and not put an Implant on that JC but now you losing valuable training time. No way to win here. I wish there was a way to take a PVP based mission objective, complete it, and earn lots of ISK. Faction Warfare I thought would fit this bill. Unfortunately, I hear these missions do not pay well. So see my point is there is no way to make living from all PVP like I would like. I should add there are some indirect ways to earn ISK that I haven’t tried like pirating (make player’s pay ransoms or ganking expensive cargo)

- Endless grinding. I have to keep grinding PVE to make a living to do what I like : PVP. Again, I am starting to wonder…..

- Exploration career is chance based and kinda boring. I tried Exploration whereas you place probes around in space and wait a long time for a result. I hate the waiting. You can reduce this with skills from 10 minutes down to a bit lower. Still, it can be a tedious process to uncover hidden belts, etc. Not a big negative bullet against the title….

- Can’t create Alts. Like I covered before, in EVE Online you can’t really have an alt without paying for another account. That sucks! I really have a blast designing new characters. But I tire of the forced grinds MMORPGs put players through. This is really frustrating……

- My favorite ship was ruined. I really loved my Helios ship. I really, really loved it. It was sleek and fun to fly. What did CCP go and do? They changed the HULL. Now it’s so ugly it should be a sin. They changed it because logically it should’ve used the Imicus Hull. It never made sense for it to use the Maulus Hull. But now they changed it to use that Hull and my ship is ugly and ruined. Nothing I can do to fix.

- Faction Warfare. This sounded cool until I found out it’s really just Race vs Race. Gallente and Minmatar will fight against Caldari and Amarr. To make matters worse, when you join the militia and fight you will lose reputation with the other faction. Right now I have Agents in Gallente space but live in Amarr space. So I can’t do it. Also, I hoped players could earn great rewards from these missions but I here it sucks

- No Random Loot. I’m a big fan of WYSIWYG Loot but in this game we’re pretty poor as it is. Sure, people that have all day to play are Billionaires but when you on a Casual time schedule you can’t. Random Loot could really help. Unfortunately, most mobs drop the same boring loot like 100% of the time. Never seen a rare blueprint drop ever. This is BORING WTH CCP

- Exploring Space nosedive. I wish we could ‘explore’ space more. Uncover new routes to destinations instead of being restricted to a fixed path like we’re playing Trade Wars (have to use Jumpgates). This is great for Bottlenecks and protecting space. This really isn’t a bad point for the game per se however there is no ‘knowledge of terrain’ factor to it or much fun to trying to chart new starmaps or anything. There is an exploration profession but it is only used to find hidden pockets in space that has loot

- Stealth. Stealth is kinda problematic here. Fun to do. But near impossible to find a cloaked target hiding in your own space

- Dull combat. When it comes down to it combat will boil down to pressing a few buttons on your UI, orbit (or not orbit and fly using point and click), etc. Combat here is less exciting then even SW: KOTR and other traditional mmorpgs

- Racial diversity blows. What was CCP thinking. Charisma is the most worthless stat I’ve ever seen in an RPG. Now take Mass Effect or SW: KOTR. Persuade is a cool stat. It allows me to get extra items, etc. Here, CHA is maximum suckage. To make matters worse, most race comes with high Charisma and you are with a high base Charisma. You can’t get rid of it. So for the sake of roleplay we got the middle finger. So everyone roles Caldari Achura, the race with the lowest Charisma in the game. This really really kills the diversity the game has to offer. There is no point in offering all these different races if you will do something silly and give gamers no choice but to roll one option. We’re boxed in here.

- Barriers to Guilds. What I am talking bout the bar of entry into certain corps is unfairly high. Some corps require around 5 million skill points to join at very least. So now you have to wait on your skill points to train in order to join a Corp

- Never reroll. I do hate being forced into rerolling. But on that same token, I hate being forced into sticking with one character. Time Based Training makes it impossible to make producing another character fully feasible. And besides, only one account can train a skill. So you have to make multiple accounts essentially to get multiple skills training

Taranis

June 27th, 2008

Now that I’m trained up to fly Interceptors I have to study all the good builds. There’s a few threads around like here.

So I am currently in Oursulert buying Taranis ships for a cheap price and then I will fly them to our outpost where my alliance is setup at. Fun times ahead
